The Storm Is Only Beginning

It was getting colder, each breath hanging in the air as if stunned by the sheer impending force of the storm. Small, now insignificant drops of cool rain fell now, soaking fur with increasing speed. Eyes bright with anticipation, they turned towards those oncoming sheets of that soaking rain. The Storm was only beginning, and in the evenings light, it'd be a storm of fire.

The White Desert

Green eyes flashed, bright, despite their panic. They flew up, only to slowly lower, tracking each miniscule spot of white fluff with a feline air. Their slow descent ended, as the white fluff landed, with the rest, on the slowly whitening ground. Rounded brown ears tuliped forward, blue tips a conspicuous contrast against the red brown of the mares shaggy coat, as she stared at the ground. Eyes narrowed as she wrinkled her velvet nose, snorting a puff of foggy air; it drifted up against her fur, cold. Teeth now bared, the war mare couldn't help but shake her head savagely, dispersing those white fluffs which had settled softly against her fur. What was this stuff? It was cold, unwelcoming... This mare of the desert was disconcerted. Where was the sun, beneath that grey sky? She couldn't find it, not through that thick, depressing cloud cover. Where was she? Another snort, before the mare seemingly decided to continue forward. If she walked long enough, she'd come to that warm, welcoming desert again, she was sure. But, she soon found that her usually sand cushioned hooves found no welcome amongst the cold crunch of the fresh snow. Oh how she disliked that feel! An annoyed toss of her head, and she was soon bounding through the snow, trying best as she could to not touch it. Oh, it would be a long journey.

Wow, what an amazing picture! The shading is beautiful, as is the horse. You are right though, the back end is iffy, especially the leg...

Thoughts of a Complete Lunatic V12

Journal Entry: Thu Jul 9, 2009, 9:41 PM

Ha. Another CSS. Haha. I like this though, its simple, and I think I might eventually be able to get the header thing to work so that with each journal I have a different character or image showcased...

Well, life's tough right now. I want to get art done, have all these wonderful ideas and it's just not working right now. So, for the next bit, when I finally scan and upload my art from classes, that'll be pretty much it... Till I can get some semblance of an effort back.

I've got a wedding to go to on Saturday *yay* I get to be the door greeter or the guestbook person or somesuch as that.

Oh, and did you guys know just how stupid I am? Really stupid. Like "groom-your-steer-Oreo-and-stand-by-his-side-while-he-shifts-feet" stupid. The fatty he is stepped on my foot, and burst the veins in it. I thought I heard a crack, hobbled in, told my mum and off to the hospital we went. We got to wait 4 hours, then get my foot x-rayed to find out it wasn't broken. Yay! But, I got to be on crutches for several days, until I could put my full weight on the foot and tolerate the pain enough to walk. So, now I'm walking again.. Though, I wish I had taken pictures of my foot, it had the coolest bruise; it was like, six little mini-bruises set up like a domino, three in a row and then three more in a row beneath them. I am assuming those were all the spots where veins had popped. *glares at Oreo*

Alpaca Box

Its been raining for almost three days straight, interspersed with massive storms of just absolutely drenching, pounding rain, and thunder and lightening storms. It finally let up today, and stuff has been slowly drying up. We went and cleaned up poop-piles, and cleaned up hay. No baby's yet, of course.

But, none of that stuff really matters. We were late going out to check on the alpacas today, me being inside doing house-chores *coughlaundrycough* and mum dealing with our Renters while my dad is up at Fort Mac for meetings. So, we didn't get to go out and see them till about 5. We could only see 13 girls, not the 15 that were in the pen, so we went in to check in the shelter, to see if the missing two were perhaps in there. They were. Both curled up side by side-- I am sorry to say that they've gone to a better place, I suppose, though even the idea of my poorly thought of euphemisms still is bringing tears to my eyes. Two of the little girls, Busy Britches and 911, passed away last night, we figure they were stepped upon or laid upon by the other girls, as there had been a massive thunderstorm, by far the worst we have had these past three days, and they had all been huddled under the shelter last night when we checked in on them, all fine.

I feel so miserable right now. Its just as bad as it was when Sparts passed away, when Munsch got put down, and when old Tiff colicked and passed away. Its only worse because these two were both in our care, and both of which I had spent so much time with, when they were alive. I had helped halter train Busy Britches when I first went to help Liz, I had shown her, fed her treats, picked grass for her... She was one of those escape artists, finding ways to climb under panels and she'd always escape into the pasture with her mum when she was being weaned. She was a sweetheart, and at times a monster. Her fiber was never perfectly clean, especially when she'd wait just a few weeks before the show to roll in the mud. I had halter trained 911, all in one night. It was so amusing, I caught her, halterd her, and tried to lead her to the yard, where the thick grass was. And instead of flipping about, she followed me, almost perfectly, until she found a pile of pine needles my dad had raked up, where she promptly straddled, and kushed, refusing to follow. So I carried her to the yard, where she kushed and then rolled onto her side, where she laid for some time, before deciding to eat. And after that, she walked on the halter just fine... She had been suffering from an ulcerated eye when she came, thats why she was put in our care, so she could receive the treatments. She was tiny, almost as small as Prudence, and she was one of the calmest, most easy to handle animals out there. It was wonderful to see as we treated her eye that she seemed to slowly gain more sight, as it had at first been almost entirely blind. Thats how I'd catch her for treatments, I'd walk up on her blind side and just grab her... It was wonderful to find it was harder to catch her there, and that she'd put up more energy to escape each time I caught her. It was such an amazing feeling to notice her eye following motion again, as the clouding slowly dissipated, and the eye grew brighter. She was always one of the first to get grass when we picked handfuls for her, she'd duck under the bigger girls to grab the stuff they'd drop. She was one who you could sit by as she kushed, and pet and talk to the whole time, her listening silently and calmly the whole time. I have to say, she was a big favorite for everyone, my dad loved her, so did my brothers and sister. I was partial to her too, and would just sit out there with her, just because she'd let me.. We all loved her, and when we' bring some of the girls out to graze on the lawn, she was always the first caught and the last released, so she could get more grass( partially because she was on the thinner side as well, though).

I dunno what to say, really. I know that it wasn't really our fault, we couldn't have stopped them from huddling up in the corner of the shelter, and being stepped upon. And we know that they were stepped on, Busy Britches white coat had muddy hoofprints on it, and both of their heads and necks were muddy and gross looking. But still, I feel terrible.

*sigh*

I'm searching through my folders to see if I can find any pictures of them I had taken.
