I just heard that my friend got a new kitten, and now just thinking of the kitten getting beaten or burned makes me die inside :(
As well as that, I once saw a picture of a pitbull who was ABUSED so much he could've been killed. I mean, he was lit on fire, he had acid dumped on him, I believe he was stabbed and starved, and he was left in the trash.
Oh, and CIRCUSES. The leader of animal abuse. Don't know what they do? Oh, they take animals from their families, chain and muzzle them on a ship, don't even feed them properly, give them barely any attention except for training, and if they do any trick wrong, they get killed after the show. I don't mean killed as in put down, they rarely get a death injection. They get brutally killed, as in stabbed, beat up.. If they get the death injection, they're lucky. And, they're trained from PURE FEAR. If they do a trick wrong during training, they can get electrocuted or stabbed or something.
And people say they love animals, but then they treat them badly..?

And yet most of these people that love this stamp support the abuse and slaughter of millions of farm animals every day. Why is a pig any different from a dog?

While I appreciate your sentiment, I do want to iterate that generalizations are, I am afraid, a dangerous line to walk. You have no quantitative evidence backing up your claim that those who love this stamp are in turn supporting the abuse and slaughter of farm animals. I get the angle that you are coming from, but it seems counterintuitive to denounce those against animal abuse as being hypocrites, when ending animal abuse can use all the support possible to actually make change possible.

Unfortunately, the farm and meat industry are controversial issues where there is a wide spectrum of individuals with different perspectives— many with valid points. Sometimes it is not an all-or-nothing scenario. In which case, those who do not condone the eating of meat because they do not like the horrors of the meat industry, have a claim that is no more or less valid than those who may be okay with eating meat, provided it is procured in a humane manner where the animals lead as positive and high quality a life as possible.

Unfortunately, when it comes to debating pigs vs dogs, it depends on the person, and their perspectives on the matter. Many find the idea of eating dogs distasteful, because of the personal sentiment behind the species as man's best friend— and certainly, co-evolution has helped foster this. Sometimes it just isn't a great idea to eat the buddy who has been helping you hunt big game. Pigs, on the other hand, are often seen as farm animals, though to many farmers and pig-owners, their pigs may be pets (and therefore given the same non-food status as dogs). They are more removed from society as a whole on an emotional level, as such the sentiment does not exist in the same manner.

I wasn't targeting anybody. By general logic most people eat meat. A positive life does not end in slaughter. That's like saying it's okay to slam a baby on the ground to kill it is okay as long as you fed it before you did so. You protect those that you love. They are not property and saying you are against animal abuse yet eating the flesh of tortured animals everyday is silly. Pigs are incredible pets-both smarter and cleaner than dogs. That is the problem. Farm animals are considered of feelings. They aren't even considered at all. We have used these animals so much to the point where they are no longer beings, but a pair of shoes or a hamburger. Just a price tag at a grocery store. What if aliens came to Earth, took over, and started farming us and using us even though we were here first? That is what we do to farm animals. They have every right to be here as we do or your dog does and there is no argument logical enough to go against it.

You're comparing apples to oranges though, by comparing slaughter practices to infanticide.

Don't get me wrong, I agree with a lot of what you are saying. But, there are some logical, and perspective differences I think that have been overlooked. Humans are animals. We think we're special, but we're still part of the food chain, and still very much a part of the animal kingdom. We're opportunistic omnivores— as in we have been designed to eat a diet of plant matter, as well as meat. This is okay. Bears do this too. So do chimps, bonobos, and other close relatives. It comes with being animals.

Cattle, pigs, chickens, and other sources of meat are generally prey animals, and, if domesticated, often have thousands of years of breeding that has made them almost entirely dependant upon humans for their survival and stewardship. Most domestic cows need people to feed and protect them— especially in climates where there is snow for several months of the year. The same go for pigs, and even chickens. In western culture, part of the distaste that comes from the concept of eating go or cat also ties in with the fact that they are predators— we have deep rooted cultural ties that alter our perspective on these animals, and also influence our perspective on farm livestock. This is okay. This is normal.

The meat industry has many, many flaws that need to be addressed. We see this all the time, and there are great activists out there who are working to change this. The foremost, and one of my favourites that comes to mind is Temple Grandin, who's perspective is more or less 'it's fine if we eat meat, but if we're gonna do it, we have to respect the animal'. This ties in with older cultural perspectives that have been largely lost in our commercialized society with it's growing demand for commercialized factory farming. But eating meat does not have to be inherently cruel.

How? Well, there are a variety of husbandry practices employed by smaller farms which ensure that the animals live healthy, happy lives until their time comes. These are farms where only enough meat that's needed for the year is harvested— for a single family, this might equate to a single cow a year. Animals on these farms often live free range, on pasture, in the sunlight, with their every need met, and with their owners loving and respecting them and taking care of them as well as their own dogs. Now, if you ask me, this is the norm we should be striving for. It's not like we don't have enough land. Livestock can thrive on land that isn't ideal for crop farming.

You can be against animal abuse, but okay with eating meat if it means you want a better standard of living for the animals providing you with that meat. As humans, we have the capacity to change the entire direction of species— and in doing so, it is our job to act as steward to our charges. We owe them the dignity and the care and quality of life they deserve. But, realistically, we also have to remember that we're animals too. If we're gonna raise prey animals and prevent them from interacting with the ecosystem and food chain as is the natural order of things (i.e., preventing wolves, cougars, coyotes and bears from partaking in the enjoyment of beef, pork and poultry) then the responsible thing would be to manage the population numbers ourselves— as in take over the role of the natural predator. Because it sure as hell isn't ethical to completely exterminate an entire species that we created over thousands of years, just because we've had a philosophical change of heart— we shouldn't be playing God in that theatre, and shouldn't be exterminating any species whatsoever— wild or domestic.

I understand where you're coming from. But I don't think you're looking at all the variables here.

Again, apples to oranges. We're talking about food practices, not the existential dilemma faced by our species in regards to its relationship with the world. We see pockets of population who are environmentally destructive— and other pockets that live in harmony with nature. We can't judge the actions of some, as the intentions of the whole, so to speak.

Wolves aren't killers. The only reason they'd ever kill a human is if they were threatening them or they mistook them for prey.. Same with sharks and other predators.
Why's there a show called "When animals attack"? Why don't they call it "When stupid people mess with animals and get attacked"?

They also discriminate Corvids one of my favorite bird groups. Calling Wolves "killers" is the exact opposite of what a wolf really is. Animal abuse just isnt equitable. It is down right wrong.
