Who are we but strolling players, Wand'ring through the Long Ago, Joys and sadness, Hopes and longings, Keep us traveling onward though, The laughter and applause of others, Who view the passing cavalcade, Leave echoes hovering some far summer, Floating 'round a woodland glade. 'Twas but a tale for your amusement, Like my small, unworthy rhyme, Gone, alas, into those realms, The land of once upon a time. -Excerpt from Marlfox, written by Brian Jacques. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I just thought that it would be nice to draw the 'original' unicorn that inspired almost everyone, be it with its legends and myths that have encircled it for centuries, or its image which has been the basic template for all our creations. And, upon thinking about it we have sort of forgotten what the original unicorn was, because we have focussed so hard, and so long, on creating unique characters, yet have forgotten what the nature of the original unicorn was (save for what the Karkadanns and kilins and kirins were). So, just for times sake (and because I feel like writing a description They were considered healers, and guardians, good omens and purity, they were almost always seen as silver white, both in body and its mane and tail, with golden hooves and a spiraling, golden horn. Sometimes they were seen with beards like goats, or with a does ears, or a lions tails, but they were always considered to be fine boned, almost fragile and delicate looking, much like an arabian or a doe. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- So, to commemorate those forgotten figures, those who inspired many of us to become artists like we have, because of their graceful visage, or their memorable stories, I ended up with the idea to create this picture. And I think it is one of my best pictures yet! Though, it would have been nice if I could have gotten it whiter that this turned out, but I think this is close enough. But, as things go on I might revise it and come up with something whiter, or more pearly....
